What appointments do new patients in New Jersey complete?

A new patient in New Jersey completes three appointments in this order:

  1. ADHD Initial intake appointment

  2. ADHD Comprehensive health assessment

  3. In-person ADHD diagnosis and treatment

The first two appointments are video appointments. The third is in person, at Marlton or Short Hills. What the first two appointments cover is in How the ADHD diagnostic process works.

When can a Schedule II stimulant be prescribed?

These rules apply to Schedule II stimulant medications used for ADHD, including generic and brand-name Vyvanse, Adderall, and Ritalin. Other Schedule II medications may have different in-person rules.

A Schedule II stimulant may be prescribed for the first time at the In-person ADHD diagnosis and treatment appointment. This appointment meets New Jersey's in-person exam requirement.

To continue receiving this type of stimulant medication, you must be seen once a year in person. Your other follow-up appointments may be via video.

How often are follow-up appointments?

How often to book an "ADHD Follow-up" is in How ADHD follow-up appointments work. Those follow-ups may be by video or in person, as long as the in-person interval above is met.

Your provider decides whether a Schedule II stimulant is appropriate.

Who has to be my provider?

The provider who prescribes your controlled substance must be the same person you see for the in-person appointment.

Nurse practitioners, doctors (MD or DO), and psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioners can offer ADHD care, depending on availability and whether the care is clinically appropriate.

Can my prescription be sent or filled outside New Jersey?

No. A New Jersey Schedule II stimulant prescription can only be issued and filled in New Jersey.

What if I miss the in-person appointment?

Reschedule as soon as you can. Get in touch with support if you need help finding a time.

Can these requirements be waived?

Circle Medical and your provider generally cannot waive them. If you have a special circumstance, discuss it with your provider at an appointment.

What if it has been a year since my last appointment?

Which appointment to book after a year away is in Which ADHD appointment to book. When you are continuing care, the New Jersey in-person interval above still applies.
