State requirements for prescribing controlled substances

Learn which provider types can prescribe controlled substances in your state and how these rules affect your care at Circle Medical.

Controlled substances are medications with strict rules about how they can be prescribed. Each state sets its own rules, including which provider types can prescribe them. This article explains how those rules affect your care and which providers can prescribe in your state.

How these rules affect your care

State and federal laws set how our providers can prescribe these medications. The rules can differ for video and in-person appointments. Not sure what counts as a controlled substance? Read Controlled vs. non-controlled substances.
