Medication Shortages

Access to certain medications may be impacted by national shortages.

Updated over a week ago

If you are having difficulty getting certain medication prescriptions filled at the pharmacy, you are not alone. There may be a national shortage of stimulant medications caused by increased demand and manufacturing delays.

If you have established a history with a pharmacy, we recommend trying to get your prescription filled there instead of seeking out a new pharmacy. Having your prescription re-routed to another pharmacy can result in even longer delays.

Before requesting a re-route, we encourage you to try the following:

  • Build a relationship with your existing pharmacist. Let your pharmacist know how the lack of medication impacts your quality of life.

  • Let your pharmacy know that you have been seeing a healthcare provider regularly and have a treatment plan in place.

  • Proactively ask your pharmacy when they expect to have the medication in stock.

Before the next appointment with your Circle Medical provider:

  • Ask your pharmacist if the medication is in stock in a different dosage or for alternatives. This information can help your provider write a new prescription that has a better chance of being filled.

  • Visit other local pharmacies in person to see if they have appropriate ADHD medications in stock.

  • At your next appointment with your Circle Medical provider, let your provider know of your circumstances, and explore alternatives with your provider as well.

Be mindful that pharmacists cannot disclose stocks of controlled substances to patients who do not have an active prescription.
