Your pharmacy refusing to fill your prescription can be a frustrating situation to deal with. Here’s what to do, and how the Care Team supports you along the way.
First, check the date on your prescription
Controlled substance prescriptions from Circle Medical providers are valid for 30 days from the day they were prescribed.
Less than 30 days ago: Start a chat in the mobile app or web portal as soon as you can. The Care Team is trained to handle pharmacy issues, and these can take time to sort out.
More than 30 days ago: Book an appointment with your provider so they can send a new prescription. The Care Team can't resolve this without a new appointment.
What the Care Team does next
The Care Team contacts your pharmacy directly to address their concerns, and keeps you updated along the way. If the pharmacy still won't fill your prescription, the Care Team will keep working with you on next steps.
Common reasons a pharmacy refuses to fill
You haven't seen your provider in person: Some pharmacies have strict rules about telehealth and require an in-person appointment.
The pharmacy isn't accepting new patients: Some pharmacies reach their limit for patients prescribed controlled substances.
You live too far from the clinic: Some pharmacies only fill prescriptions when the clinic and your address are within a set radius.
The pharmacy doesn't carry your medication: Not all pharmacies stock every medication. Specialty, hospital, and compounding pharmacies often don't. If you use one of these, check that they carry your medication first.
Pharmacy issues can take time to resolve. The sooner you reach out, the better.
