Frequently asked questions (FAQs) about the ADHD diagnostic process at Circle Medical

Find answers to common questions about care requirements for new and existing patients seeking ADHD care, scheduling your visits, and appointment costs.

How do I become an established ADHD patient?

To become an established ADHD patient, you need to receive an ADHD diagnosis through Circle Medical. If you’re a new patient seeking ADHD care on or after June 1st, 2026, this means you’ll need to complete the 3-visit diagnostic process.

I received an ADHD diagnosis at another clinic. Which appointment do I book?

All new patients looking to receive ADHD care from Circle Medical will need to complete the 3-visit ADHD diagnostic process. Please book an "ADHD Initial intake appointment" to get started!

Which ADHD appointment do I book if it's been over 12 months since my last appointment?

If you're an established ADHD patient, or you started the ADHD intake process and it's been over 12 months since your last appointment, you'll need to restart ADHD care by booking the "ADHD Initial intake appointment".

Important note: If you don't see this appointment type, please book a "Standard appointment" and in the "Reason," specify that you'd like to restart ADHD care.

Why do I need to restart the ADHD diagnostic process?

Restarting the ADHD diagnostic process protects your health by ensuring your provider has an up-to-date understanding of your current symptoms, any new medical conditions, and assessing what treatments may work best for you now.

How do I resume my ADHD intake if it's been a few months since my last appointment?

If it's been less than twelve months since your last ADHD appointment and you haven't completed the ADHD intake process, please book your next ADHD diagnostic appointment:

  • If you completed "ADHD Initial intake appointment," book "ADHD Comprehensive health assessment (CHA)"

  • If you completed the "ADHD Comprehensive health assessment (CHA)," book "ADHD Diagnosis and treatment"

  • If you completed "ADHD diagnosis and treatment," book an "ADHD Follow-up"

Important note: While this guidance generally applies to patients who had a lapse in care of less than 12 months, providers have the right to exercise their clinical judgement and ask you to restart the ADHD intake process and book an "ADHD Initial intake appointment".

Do I need to complete the 3-visit ADHD diagnostic process if I’m already being treated for ADHD at Circle Medical?

No. The 3-visit ADHD diagnostic process only applies to new patients seeking ADHD care as of June 1st, 2026.

Do I need an annual physical exam to receive ADHD care or prescriptions?

No. While annual physicals may be recommended by your provider to promote ongoing comprehensive care and overall wellness, Circle Medical does not require a separate annual wellness or physical exam to begin or maintain ADHD treatment. The specific recommendations vary depending on whether you're an established patient or not:

  • New patients (starting ADHD care on or after June 1st, 2026): You don’t need a separate annual physical exam. Your overall health and mental well-being are thoroughly evaluated directly within your 3-visit ADHD diagnostic process.

  • Established ADHD patients: An annual physical exam isn’t required to maintain your current prescriptions. However, we strongly recommend scheduling one annually so your provider can ensure that your treatment plan remains safe, effective, and compatible with your overall health needs.

Can I skip the ADHD Comprehensive health assessment if I’ve already had an annual wellness exam this year?

No. If you are a new patient seeking ADHD care on or after June 1st, 2026, you can't skip the "ADHD Comprehensive health assessment (CHA)". The CHA allows your provider to evaluate your overall health, rule out other causes of your symptoms, and assess critical factors like sleep and heart health before exploring an ADHD treatment plan.

What do I do if I started my ADHD assessment before June 1st, 2026, but have not received a diagnosis yet?

If you started being assessed for ADHD care before June 1st, 2026, but have only completed the "ADHD Initial intake appointment", you must complete an annual wellness exam before moving to your treatment phase. You can fulfill this requirement in one of three ways:

  1. Upload the full visit notes of an annual physical or wellness exam completed within the last 12 months from an external provider. Follow the steps outlined here to learn how to send or upload previous medical records to Circle Medical profile.

  2. Book a wellness exam directly with Circle Medical.

  3. Schedule an annual physical or wellness exam with an external provider and upload the full notes.

Once your provider reviews your annual wellness exam results, you can schedule an ADHD Follow-up appointment to establish and maintain your ADHD care plan.

Can I book all ADHD appointments together?

No. To ensure your health insurance covers your visits, Circle Medical only allows you to schedule one appointment per day. You can book your appointments one after the other, if you wish.

You won't be able to book more than one appointment in a day unless you have an appointment that was canceled, and you want to rebook for the same day.

How much does each appointment cost at the self-pay rate?

These are the self-pay prices for each ADHD video appointment type:

  • $179 - "ADHD Initial intake appointment"

  • $120 - "ADHD Comprehensive health assessment (CHA)"

  • $120 - "ADHD Diagnosis and treatment"

  • $120 - "ADHD Follow-up" appointments

See our appointment costs article for more on appointment pricing.

Can I do my ADHD intake appointments in person?

No. The "ADHD Initial intake", "ADHD Comprehensive health assessment (CHA)", and "ADHD Diagnosis and treatment" appointments are only offered over video.

Can I do my ADHD follow-up appointments in person?

"ADHD Follow-up" appointments are primarily offered over video. Some states may offer "In-person ADHD Follow-up" appointments, such as New Jersey.

In California, ADHD patients who established care before June 1st, 2026, may be able to have their "ADHD follow-up" appointments at our San Francisco clinic.

Although ADHD care at Circle Medical is primarily conducted over video, please check your state-specific requirements- some states require in-person appointments to remain compliant with state regulations.

Why can’t I see the ADHD follow-up appointment type?

You will only see this appointment type once you’ve completed the ADHD diagnostic process and are an established ADHD patient.

How do I book an ADHD follow-up appointment?

Once you’re an established ADHD patient (completed all three ADHD intake appointments), select the "ADHD Follow-up" appointment in the Circle Medical mobile app or web portal.

Can I get a bridge prescription to match my previous care plan from an external facility?

No. To maintain the highest standard of safety and clinical accuracy, all new patients - including those previously diagnosed with ADHD at an external facility - must complete our 3-visit diagnostic process before any controlled substance medications can be prescribed.

Can I book a CHA if I’m not in the ADHD diagnostic process?

No. The "ADHD Comprehensive health assessment" can’t be booked outside of ADHD care. This appointment type will only be visible to those who have completed the "ADHD Initial intake appointment".

To have your overall health assessed, please book a "Wellness exam".

What's the difference between the ADHD - Comprehensive health assessment (AHA) and an Annual wellness exam (AWE)?

The "ADHD Comprehensive health assessment (CHA)" is an appointment type specific to those seeking ADHD care. This appointment is the second mandatory step in the 3-visit ADHD diagnostic process. In this appointment, your provider focuses on ruling out other medical causes to ensure your ADHD symptoms aren't caused by another underlying condition and to assess overall safety for potential ADHD treatment.

The wellness exam appointment type isn’t specific to ADHD care. Patients may book an annual wellness exam (AWE) for preventative care. This appointment includes screening for diseases, keeping track of certain markers such as blood pressure or cholesterol levels, and supporting healthy lifestyle choices and changes.
