In-Person ADHD Follow-up Appointments for Controlled Substance Treatment Plans

Learn why in-person visits may be required for controlled substance prescriptions and how to keep your care consistent.

Updated over a week ago

If you receive controlled substance treatment virtually via telemedicine, federal and state regulations may have in-person appointment requirements for patients.

Scheduling an in-person ADHD follow-up appointment ensures you are maintaining uninterrupted care while staying compliant when applicable.

This article guides you through frequently asked questions about the booking process, provider availability, and what to expect during your in-person visit.

Why is an in-person appointment needed?

The Ryan Haight Online Pharmacy Act requires an in-person evaluation with a provider to prescribe controlled substances via telemedicine. This ensures patients receive proper evaluation and diagnosis, while helping prevent misuse or abuse of these medications.

See our locations for more information.

How can I book an in-person ADHD follow-up appointment?

If applicable to your location, follow these steps to book an in-person ADHD follow-up appointment:

  1. Open your mobile app and start the booking process.

  2. Select the 'In-person ADHD Follow-up Appointment' option.

  3. Choose your state of residence. If you need to travel across state lines, please start a chat with the Care Team via mobile app or web portal.

  4. Select your provider and a time that works for you. The provider you see in person may need to be your ongoing provider, depending on state regulations.

  5. Confirm the appointment. You'll receive an email confirmation once your booking is complete.

Note: Appointments may not be available more than six weeks in advance.

What can I expect during my in-person ADHD follow-up appointment?

During your 15-minute in-person ADHD follow-up appointment, your provider will review your medical history and current symptoms. A brief physical exam may also be part of your visit, including checking blood pressure, heart rate, and respiratory rate.

What is the difference between controlled and non-controlled substances?

Can I book an in-person appointment with a different provider than my primary care provider?

We recommend booking your in-person appointment with your primary care provider when possible.

Please note that some providers may not offer in-person appointments in your state or a nearby state. If you see a different provider for your in-person appointment, you may need to continue follow-up visits with them instead.

How much does an in-person ADHD appointment cost?

  • If you have insurance, the cost for these appointments depends on your insurance plan's deductible and copay.

  • If you are a self-pay patient, the cost is $120.

How often will I need to be seen in-person?

  • In-person ADHD follow-up appointment regulations differ depending on your state of residence. Please note that federal and state regulations, or our own policies, may change.

  • Once you have attended an in-person appointment, you may continue receiving your controlled prescription through telemedicine as long as it remains clinically appropriate and you are seeing the same provider, if required by your state.

  • Your provider may request an in-person appointment based on their clinical judgement. Our priority is to ensure that your care remains both clinically appropriate and compliant with federal, and state regulations.

Can I combine my in-person appointment with other health concerns?

No, your in-person ADHD follow-up appointment can't be combined with other health concerns. If you have additional health matters to discuss, please book a separate video appointment with your provider.

Why can't I see availability to book an in-person appointment with my provider?

Your primary care provider might not be available for in-person appointments at the time of your booking, or, we might not have a satellite clinic in your state. See our locations for more information.

Please check the mobile app or web portal periodically for appointment availabilities, as providers update their calendars regularly.

If you book with another provider for your in-person appointment, you may need to continue virtual care with them- always confirm with your state regulations.
