Sometimes you need your medication early, like when you're traveling out of state before your prescription is due to be filled. Here's how to ask.
Start with your provider
If you know you'll need an early refill, please bring it up during your appointment. If you didn't get the chance, the Care Team can still forward your request to your provider for review.
Important note: Early refills for controlled substances aren't guaranteed.
Then follow these steps
Call your pharmacy. Explain your situation and ask the earliest date they can fill your prescription. Some pharmacies will release medication 1 to 2 days early, but it's always the pharmacist's discretion.
If the pharmacy needs authorization from your provider to fill the prescription early, start a chat in the mobile app or web portal.
If your provider approves, they'll either call the pharmacy with verbal authorization or resend the prescription with a note authorizing an early fill.
The Care Team will update you on your provider's decision and the status of your request.
Important note: Early refills for controlled substances are approved only in specific situations. Due to strict controlled substance regulations, your provider and/or pharmacist may deny the request.
