Pharmacies that do and don't fill controlled substance prescriptions

Learn how to find the right pharmacy for your Circle Medical prescriptions.

Finding the right pharmacy is an important part of managing your care and ensuring timely access to your medications. Circle Medical primarily works with retail pharmacies and home delivery/mail order pharmacies.

Pharmacies that accept controlled substance prescriptions

Many pharmacies are able to fill controlled substance prescriptions, so you’ll be able to find an option that works for you. The following pharmacies will accept controlled substance prescriptions.

List of retail pharmacies

Retail pharmacies are physical, walk-in locations where you can go to fill your prescriptions. These pharmacies are ideal if you're already established with a pharmacy, prefer in person support, and/or want more control over when you pick up your prescriptions.

Important note: If you’re selecting Walmart as your preferred pharmacy, Walmart requires an in person appointment once every 2 years before accepting a controlled substance prescription.

List of home delivery/mail order pharmacies

Mail order pharmacies deliver your medications directly to your home. Please note, a signature is usually required to accept controlled substance prescriptions delivered by mail.

These mail order pharmacies accept controlled substance prescriptions from Circle Medical providers:

  • Birdi Home Delivery

  • Express Scripts

  • Optum Rx

  • Postal Rx Services Pharmacy

  • Rx Outreach (Please note that Rx Outreach does not accept insurance or coupons, so the medication cost is fully out of pocket.)

  • Walgreens Mail Service

If you are using a home delivery pharmacy, contact the pharmacy directly for updates on shipment and to track the status of your order.

Pharmacies that may fill controlled substances for Circle Medical patients

If you’d like to fill your prescription at one of these pharmacies, please call them first to confirm they will accept your prescription:

Pharmacies that don’t accept controlled substance prescriptions

Not all pharmacies are able to fill controlled substance prescriptions due to: internal policies, regulatory requirements, or the type of services the pharmacy provides.

Below are pharmacies that won’t fill controlled substance prescriptions sent by Circle Medical providers.

Compounding pharmacies are specialized pharmacies that prepare customized medications for patients with specific needs when commercially available options are not suitable.

Although compounding pharmacies can prepare controlled substances, ADHD medications are available in many standard commercial dosages and forms, so compounding is typically not needed. Therefore, we don't send controlled substance prescriptions for ADHD to compounding pharmacies.

Specialty pharmacies focus on rare-condition medications and often don't supply medications like Adderall.

In hospital/institutional pharmacies are located within hospitals or clinics, so these pharmacies primarily fill prescriptions for inpatients only.

Pharmacy tips

Good to know:

  • Double-check with your insurance to confirm that they cover your pharmacy, especially for telehealth care.

  • Call your chosen pharmacy to double-check that they are accepting new patients, have your medication in stock, and can fill controlled substance prescriptions for care received via telehealth.

  • We recommend staying with the same pharmacy when possible so that you can build a strong pharmacist-patient relationship.

Mail-order pharmacies:

  • If you plan to use a mail-order pharmacy, please check with your insurance pharmacy benefits. Many insurance plans have designated mail-order pharmacies.

  • Some mail order pharmacies like Rx Outreach are cash-based only.
