Changes in Your Care Team
Florida state law limits the ability of Advanced Practice Providers (such as Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants) to prescribe many controlled substances for more than a seven-day supply. These medications include stimulants for ADHD and some gender-affirming hormone therapies.
In order to comply with these regulations and uphold our dedication to delivering exceptional care, Florida patients must see a physician (MD/DO) in order to be regularly prescribed a controlled substance medication at our practice. This policy is effective beginning January 9, 2024.
What This Means for You
If your current provider is a nurse practitioner or physician assistant, you may still continue to see them for primary care concerns unrelated to controlled substance medication management.
Appointments pertaining to controlled substance medication management will need to be scheduled with an available physician (MD/DO).
If you have a scheduled appointment with a physician assistant or nurse practitioner for the management of controlled substance medication, it may be cancelled to allow you to schedule a new appointment with a physician.
