Changes in Your Care Team
Florida law limits Advanced Practice Providers (such as Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants) to prescribe many controlled substances for more than a seven-day supply. This includes stimulants for ADHD and certain gender-affirming hormone therapies.
To comply with these regulations, Florida patients must see a physician (MD/DO) for ongoing controlled substance prescriptions. This policy is effective as of January 9, 2024.
What This Means for You
Controlled medication management appointments must be scheduled with an available physician (MD/DO) or psychiatric nurse (PMHNP).
If your current provider is a nurse practitioner or physician assistant, you can continue seeing them for primary care concerns unrelated to controlled substances.
Any scheduled appointments with a nurse practitioner (NP-C) or physician assistant (PA-C) for the management of controlled substance medication may be cancelled to allow you to book with a physician.
Available Physicians
We have many doctors available to see Florida patients for ongoing medication management when a controlled substance is part of the care plan. Just ensure that the physician you choose is a doctor (Dr.) with "MD" or "DO" in their title.
