Adult Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD/ADD)
Here at Circle Medical, we can provide ADHD diagnosis and treatment for non-complex cases, over video appointments. Our ADHD Assessment process consists of:
- an ADHD intake appointment
- an annual physical exam if you have not had one within the last 12 months, and
- second ADHD appointment to complete the diagnosis process and discuss treatment options.
If medically appropriate, our providers are then able to prescribe clinically approved ADHD treatment options.
Circle Medical is a comprehensive primary care practice. We can and do treat ADHD; our philosophy is to treat the patient as a whole.
An annual physical is an important part of the ADHD diagnosis. It is imperative to address all aspects of your health, not just as it relates to mental health. Preventative care, which includes immunizations, cancer screening, blood pressure and cholesterol checks, as well as important lifestyle habits such as sleep, exercise, and diet, all contribute to your overall health and well-being. By requiring a recent annual physical, Circle Medical is making sure that you, in your entirety (mind and body), are given the time and attention you deserve.
If you have had a previous ADHD diagnosis before:
An annual physical with Circle Medical, or proof of a wellness exam within the past 12 months, is required to be eligible for first-line treatment with a controlled substance. You can get started by booking a Video ADHD Appointment with a provider.
- This first appointment is needed to establish your ADHD medical history and discuss previous treatment.
- After that appointment, your provider will require an annual physical exam appointment, if you have not had one within the last 12 months. This can be done virtually by Circle Medical or you can provide us with medical records of an annual physical.
- After your annual physical is complete and your ADHD medical records have been reviewed, your provider will discuss and initiate your Circle Medical ADHD treatment plan.
- While your treatment plan is being established, the continuation of your previous medication is at the provider's discretion.

Can you prescribe controlled medications during a video visit?
The safety and well-being of our patients is our number one priority, and we take controlled substance regulations very seriously.
While we understand these medications are an important component of many patients' ongoing ADHD treatment, the prescribing of controlled substances occurs within the bounds of safe and effective medical care.
Our providers are required to conduct:
- An extensive medical evaluation, which includes an in-depth discussion of symptoms and goals of treatment.
- An annual physical exam with Circle Medical, or proof of an annual physical exam within the past 12 months.
- After your medical evaluation and annual physical, a controlled substance medication may be prescribed as part of a comprehensive treatment plan at your provider's discretion.
- Monthly follow-up appointments (via video or in-person) to monitor your symptoms, discuss medication side effects and make modifications to your care plan.
How can I get a refill of my prescription?
If you need a new fill for your prescription, simply book an appointment with your provider so that they can assist!
- Controlled substance prescriptions require an appointment before receiving a new fill.
- Non-controlled substance prescriptions require contacting your provider either via an appointment or by requesting a refill via the chat section of the app if appropriate. This option is fully dependent on your care plan and not guaranteed.
You can check out how to book an appointment in this FAQ!
What is Circle Medical's policy on prescribing controlled substances?
Controlled substances may be prescribed depending on your specific treatment plan, which will be discussed and decided upon with your provider.
- While your treatment plan is being established, the continuation of your previous medication is at the provider's discretion.
- An annual physical, or documentation of an annual physical, will be required before starting an ADHD treatment plan for patients who have not had an annual physical within the last 12 months.
- All appointments booked to discuss progress and process any new prescription fills (in-person or via video) are considered billable office visits.
Patient responsibility:
It is the responsibility of the patient to:
- adhere to treatment plans, including utilizing the medications as prescribed.
- schedule follow-up appointments to prevent running out of medication and/or gaps in treatment.
Controlled substance prescriptions will not be filled or changed when requested through the chat function. An appointment is required to discuss any changes in your treatment plan.
The goal of all Circle Medical providers is to provide safe and effective care fully within the scope of our telemedicine and brick-and-mortar practice. Please let them know if you have any questions regarding this policy.
